Learning objectives & outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

•Operate DSLR/Mirrorless cameras confidently in manual mode for studio and location shoots.

•Use artificial and natural lighting to shape mood and product images.

•Produce a professional portfolio of 10–12 publishable images and multimedia assets.

•Edit using industry standard software and prepare deliverables for print/web.

•Pitch services, price work, and manage a freelance workflow.



Course structure — Modules (6 core modules + capstone)

1.Fundamentals of Camera Operation (Exposure, lenses, autofocus, file formats) — Learning outcomes + assessment: practical shoot.

2.Lighting & Studio Techniques (flash, modifiers, continuous light, light shaping) — assessment: studio portrait shoot.

3.Composition & Visual Storytelling (narrative, framing, sequencing) — assessment: photo series.

4.Technical Retouching & Workflow (RAW processing, advanced retouch, color management) — assessment: before/after package.

5.Commercial Photography (product, fashion basics, client briefs, licensing) — assessment: mock client brief.

6.Business of Photography & Marketplace (pricing, contracts, IP, marketplace listing) — assessment: create marketplace product listing.

Capstone / Portfolio Project — produce a client-ready portfolio + oral pitch and submit to Assignment Bank.



Assessment & Certification

•Continuous practical assessments and a final portfolio review.

•Certification: CPKC Certificate of Completion (AQF Level 2 aligned).

•Passing criteria: submission of capstone portfolio + attendance min 75% + competency assessments.
